The most expensive Japanese cards are almost all vintage or promos, which you can no longer pull from a sealed box. Below are the most expensive cards from recent sets, with the odds where they are known. Amounts: ungraded, PriceCharting, October 8, 2026.
Top 5 from recent sets
- Mega Charizard X ex MUR (#116), Inferno X (M2): about €596. Odds about 1 in 50 boxes.
- Gengar Master Ball (#94), Pokémon 151 (SV2a): about €508. One Master Ball card per box, out of 153: a specific one 1 in 153 boxes on average.
- Mega Charizard X ex SAR (#110), Inferno X (M2): about €505. An SAR in about 1 in 3 to 4 boxes.
- Mega Rayquaza ex MUR (#113), Storm Emeralda (M6): about €468. About 1 in 50 boxes.
- Mega Greninja ex MUR (#120), Ninja Spinner (M4): about €415. About 1 in 50 boxes.
What stands out
Three of the five are Mega Ultra Rares from the MEGA block. Charizard appears twice. And a regular Gengar with a Master Ball pattern is worth more than almost any SAR.
Expectations
A box of Inferno X costs €110.95 with us (October 22, 2026). So fifty boxes for one MUR cost well over €5,500, for a card of around €600. Opening is worth it for the opening itself, not as a hunt for one card. If you want the card, buy it as a single.
Prices of new sets also move a lot. Storm Emeralda has only been out since late July 2026, and prices in that set have dropped since release.
